about the author

Linda Shelmandine is a retired English teacher living in Newburgh, NY. She has written The Goode Sisters not only as a supporter of the LGBT community but also as one who has a heart for children and shares the hope we all have in them for a better tomorrow.

about the book

Children are born into the world unencumbered with prejudices and closed-mindedness; in fact they are quite the contrary, possessing young hearts and minds that ‘hope all things and believe all things’. It is for them this book has been written. May they recognize the truth and welcome and establish it while they are still so open to it. Like the flowers in a garden, human beings do come in infinite variety, and the sun does shine on them all. The story of The Goode Sisters is meant to be shared between a parent and a child. It approaches the matter of gender identity gently and simply, and it also encourages discussion between the parent and the child. Perhaps, even, as the parents read the story, the naturalness of gender identity will become established in their own hearts as well.
